We have a very exciting opportunity to interact with students directly in their classes – working with the professors to provide support and life experience where it will have an impact. Penn State has been officially designated as an age-friendly university! You can access the full story here. To earn this designation, Penn State demonstrated progress with four of the 10 age-friendly university (AFU) principles, voiced commitment to strengthening these four principles, and strive to improve two additional goal principles over the next 5 years.
The Center for Healthy Aging is launching new effort to expand progress on one of the principles (Number 4): intergenerational learning. Our work seeks to change how older adults are included in courses by making them partners in the instructional process. This could look like older adults partnering with students on a course assignment to provide real-world expertise or grounding a lesson with older adult experiences. Each class and collaboration will be different. Our hope is pilot this initiative in the upcoming fall semester.
Individuals interested in learning more about the initiative and meet faculty members wishing to participate are encouraged to attend a brainstorming workshop.
The workshop is scheduled for May 14th, 2025 from 10:00am to 12:00noon in 110 Henderson, University Park campus. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by May 9th to us PLEASE CLICK HERE TO RSVP.
