Happy New Year, here is a brief overview of upcoming 2014Chapter events:

1.       Friday For The Kids Cash Party - Save the date!  Last year, a committee of Penn State Alumni Association staff volunteers joined forces with the Centre County Chapter to organize the first-ever Friday For The Kids Cash Party and raised $6,287.75 for the Lion Ambassadors and Blue & White Society in support of THON. Our efforts last year earned each of our student groups an extra dancer spot for THON 2014.  Join us for the second annual “Friday For The Kids Cash Party” to be held Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Hintz Family Alumni Center. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Your ticket purchase of $25 gives you access to the event, appetizers, beer, wine, entertainment, and entry into the Cash Party drawing for a chance at $1,475 in total prize money with a top prize of $500. There will be additional opportunities throughout the evening to win even more money – rip tickets/pull tabs, 50/50 drawings, and raffles!   Only 200 tickets will be sold for this event. With a fixed number of tickets available, make sure you can join the fun and purchase your tickets early. The Bandshell on Old Main Lawn for Arts Fest

Dear CCCPSAA Member,

Here is a brief overview of upcoming Chapter events:

1.       EMERGENCY GRANT FUND ***We need your help*** – Imagine yourself a student, away from home and the tragedy of a sudden serious illness, fire or theft in your apartment, strikes. With your already tight educational budget, the expenses brought on by unexpected situations like these could make it extremely difficult or even impossible to remain enrolled at Penn State.  The Centre County Chapter established the Emergency Grant Fund to help reduce the financial stress for all Penn State students facing unforeseeable hardships, and give them a chance to complete their studies.  CCCPSAA donates $3,000 annually to this fund.  There are no residency restrictions or other stipulations to receive emergency aid. CCCPSAA is the only Penn State Alumni Association affiliate group to provide this type of assistance to Penn State students in need. The recent economic conditions have resulted in an increase in the number of requests. Our funds last year were used by many deserving students and are currently at a low level. If you are  considering a gift to Penn State and want to ensure it will make a real difference in a student’s life, please consider a tax deductible donation to the CCCPSAA Emergency Grant Fund.  Checks can be made payable to CCCPSAA with a note in the memo saying ‘Emergency Grant Fund’.

Mail to:

CCCPSAA

P.O. Box 10082

State College, PA 16805-0082.

(Attn: Emergency Grant Fund)

2.       INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ RECEPTION - The CCCPSAA is again hosting a welcome reception with Global Connections for new international students as they embark on their Penn State studies. The reception will be held at:

Hintz Family Alumni Center

Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm

We will need chapter member volunteers to help with stuffing bags and folding t-shirts for the students prior to the event and assistance during the event to help with name-tags, food set-up, mingling and entertaining the students, and clean up after the event.     To volunteer contact Melanie Moore at email mgm514@comcast.net  with your name and contact information if you are available to help that night or earlier during the day with the preparation of the gift bags for the student.  Melanie will provide volunteers with more  specific details as we get closer to the event.  We are hoping for a good turnout of chapter members to help make this annual event memorable for the students.

3.       CCCPSAA WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS - New board members, Rose Kupchinsky and Dick Kustin were welcomed to the board at the July meeting.  The board is looking for chapter members who would like to get more involved by serving on committees for  homecoming, THON, our Annual 5K , community service and other activities.  Please contact Marti Duffy, Chapter President for more information at cccpsaa@gmail.com.

4.       AUGUST CHAPTER HAPPY HOUR – We will be celebrating Summer at the Tavern on the patio (220 E. College Ave.), Friday, August 9, 2013 from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.  Come join us for our summer Happy Hour!  We have had a great turnout for our Happy Hours.  If you haven’t joined us yet, come and see what you’re missing.  Reminder:  Join the chapter at the Happy Hour & save the $5.00 charge for non-members.  Why not stay for dinner after.
