1.       COMMUNITY GARDEN – Our Community Garden removal will be on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 9:00am.  The location and parking is on the cloverleaf at University Drive and E. College Ave (on the State College side and approach from Stadium side on University Drive).  Rain or shine so be prepared.  The annuals will be removed, the plastic pulled up and garden raked. Since it is not known whether the WPC truck will be there, if you have a garden shovel or bow rake that fits in your trunk we may need it. Please contact Marti Duffy to let her know if you can make help. Contact Marti by email at martifd@hotmail.com  or phone  814-308-8948.  We may have some of the Remax Realtors who have been doing the weeding come join the fun.  The more hands the quicker everyone gets to their Saturday activities (no game weekend).

2.       CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER OCTOBER HAPPY HOUR – Our October Happy Hour will be this Friday, October 10, 2014 at Local Whiskey,  107 East Beaver Avenue, State College from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Join your fellow Chapter members for a fun evening talking about old times and chapter events.

3.       COMMUNITY SERVICE NEWS from Al Landis – ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP for 2014 has been postponed until November or next spring.   Along with a Facebook announcement, anyone who participated in the highway clean-up in the past will receive an email with the date and times.  I know everyone will be disappointed over the delay but please don’t lose any sleep.  We will be back cleaning up the University Drive Extension soon.

4.       PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL OF CENTRAL PA NUTCRACKER  REHERSAL – Centre County Chapter Members have been invited to the Performing Arts School of Central PA Nutcracker Rehearsal by one of our great board members, Ron Frear.  The event will be Friday, November 21, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  at the Performing Arts School of Central PA located on 3006 Research Drive,  Suite D-1, State College, PA.  Wine and snacks will be provided at no charge.

6.       HOMECOMING 2014…..We had a great turnout of CCCPSAA members to march in the Homecoming Parade on September 26th as we honored our traditions and carried our pride!  The parade and post-parade party got everyone in the mood for a festive weekend.  Special thanks to member Amy Farkas who continues to organize this event for the chapter.  Amy steps up every year to help out and her efforts are greatly appreciated.    Thanks again Amy for a task well done!

This impressive group of five new members brings a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Ron Frear returns to the Board after serving as a member of the Penn State Alumni Council. Ron has had a close working relationship with the Penn State cheerleaders and has helped to have some of them and the Nittany Lion attend some of our events. Alan Jones hails from Rhode Island and can be spotted at nearly every Chapter sponsored activity, Happy Hours, and at SASD, to mention a few. He has been active in both the Scranton and Rhode Island chapters before moving to State College. Bob Runkle is a retired school administrator. His undergraduate and doctorate are from Temple with his Masters obtained at Penn State. Bob and his wife, Cathy, share their time between Happy Valley and Delaware. Nathan Querry is one of our young professionals. He is an avid hiker and recently enjoyed the Spring Creek Trail. He has been a volunteer with the Chapter for our night at WPSU and attends many of our events. Jack Welesko is a retired engineer and along with his wife, Maureen, have been volunteers at SASD,  Alumni Weekend at Arts Festival, and our other Chapter events.   We welcome these new members and look forward to having you get to know them as the year goes on.  The Chapter also thanks Al Landis, our community service project chairman and Ilene White, our corresponding secretary as they rotate off the board.
