Seeking trash to treasure Volunteers or Volunteer Groups

April 20th, 2015

15_T2T_0016_SpringSaleSlider-960x332

 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Greetings – it is that time again to start thinking about preparations for Trash to Treasure 2015.

This is the 14th Annual Trash to Treasure Sale which benefits the 34 Centre County United Way Partner Agencies.

Please consider lending a hand!

The 14th Annual Trash to Treasure Sale is scheduled for May 30, 2015 at Beaver Stadium.  Each year over 60 tons of donated goods from Penn State students moving out of the residence halls is collected and sorted to be resold at a discounted price.  It is the largest recycling event in the area and allows community members to get great deals on a variety of items while supporting local health and human service agencies.

The Trash to Treasure set-up and sorting process begins on May 9th and continues until sale day.  We rely heavily on volunteers to help us get ready for over one thousand shoppers who attend the sale.  You can volunteer as an individual or as a group – spend the day or just a couple hours!  There are many flexible shifts available and no previous experience is necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit  http://sites.psu.edu/trash2treasure/volunteer/  to sign up today!

Thank you in advance for your support!

Liberal Arts Alumni Mentor Program

March 4th, 2015

63026_145075078869406_5346101_nChapter members who are Liberal Arts Alumni and would be interested in getting involved by becoming a mentor.

What the Program Is:

The program is a collaborative effort between the Career Enrichment Network and Alumni Relations in the College of the Liberal Arts, and matches current undergraduate Liberal Arts students with alumni in a field related to their major and/or career interests.   Mentors do not have to be local; students speak with their mentors via phone, Skype, and in-person meetings if possible.

How You Can Help Students:

  • Serve as a resource, provide guidance, and share your expertise to promote student success.
  • Act as a sounding board, assist with internship and job searches, and encourage students to development new skills
  • Talk to students about post-PSU life and their future plans
  • Remain connected to the College and University by working with students, attending on-campus events, and participating in other career development opportunities.

Leave a Legacy and Make an Impact:

You can foster and support the next generation of Penn State and Liberal Arts alumni. Give back with your time, commitment, and knowledge. There are many talented students who are beginning to think about post-graduation plans and are interested in connecting with alumni. Students greatly appreciate the dedication alumni have to helping current Nittany Lions achieve their goals!

 To Get Involved:

For more information about the program, visit http://www.la.psu.edu/current-students/cen/mentoring/information-for-alumni . To sign up now, please visit: http://apps.la.psu.edu/mentoring/mentorstart.aspx. Student applications will be accepted beginning March 15. Matches will be made in mid-April and you would hear from your student over the summer.

Thank you again for your support of the Liberal Arts and Penn State students.  I also invite you to join our Penn State Liberal Arts Alumni Network LinkedIn group to stay connected.  If you have any questions, please contact Heather at hzb100@psu.edu or via phone at 814-865-1070.
