Hi Everyone,

The Blue & White Society is celebrating their 20th Birthday at the annual BASH Event on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Hintz Family Alumni Center on campus.

The Blue & White Society is the student chapter to the Penn State Alumni Association. Engaging students with alumni is one of the goals and part of the mission of the Blue and White Society.  They are extending an invitation to the Centre County Chapter members to join them at this year’s BASH.   They are hoping to begin the process of connecting alumni and students from the beginning of the semester.

The Blue & White Society, president, Heather Wong, wants to introduce us and challenge students through a passport to visit with the alumni.

As parking next to the Hintz Family Alumni Center is very limited, we recommend that you park in the Frazier Street garage.  If you have a campus parking pass for after 4 pm,  you can park in the lot next to Hintz, but not in the spots marked reserved for Hintz.  If you have a Centre County Chapter shirt we encourage you to wear it.  Sign in and receive a name tag at the door.

Hope to see many of our alumni chapter members at the BASH,

Carol Stokes

President, Centre County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association

Kicks 4 Kids needs volunteers to run the Penn State 8v8 Soccer Tournament

July 21st, 2015

Friends / Family / Past Volunteers,

Kicks 4 Kids needs volunteers to run the Penn State 8v8 Soccer Tournament during the weekend of August 1-2.  We are asking volunteers to sign up for 4 hour long shifts on Saturday and/or Sunday.

Below are the details of the event, please consider and if you are interested in signing up please use our Volunteer Spot Link at the bottom of this email.  Questions? contact Ben Eltz, beneltz@gmail.com 814-883-6631 cell.

The background and the details……………

In 2000 my friends and I started a small youth soccer tournament, Kicks 4 Kids, to raise money for charity.  We started with 4 teams in 2000 and have since grown to over 300 teams in two towns.  Each tournament donates 100% of the proceeds to youth based charities.  The Penn State 8v8 tournament raises money for non-profit organizations in Centre County including children’s programs of the United Way and Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania.

The teams that play in the tournament are much like little league baseball teams.  They are not affiliated with schools, but rather a soccer club and range in age from 9 to 19.  These teams all play soccer in a regular Fall or Spring league and then choose one or two summer tournaments to travel to as a team and compete against teams from other areas.  The Penn State Tournament mainly draws teams from Pennsylvania.

The Penn State 8v8 takes place on the campus of Penn State on the intramural fields at the intersection of Park and University Drive.

To date, the tournaments have raised over $350,000. Kicks 4 Kids is a IRS registered non-profit organization and employees one part-time employee.

The Penn State 8v8 tournament will host over 135 youth soccer teams bringing an estimated 2400 visitors to State College. We need at least 84 volunteers to help make it a success.  We need YOUR help!

When: August 1-2, 2015:  State College, PA

You don’t need to know anything about soccer or be able to stay the entire weekend in order to have fun and be a great help!

The single biggest need to help the tournament run smoothly is a quality team of field managers.  (We call them field marshals).

Here is a job description:

Sit at a field under a tent, flip a coin before a game, radio in scores, radio when trash cans need to be emptied, radio in when water coolers need to be filled, get the referees anything they need, radio site director if parents get out of hand (basically be a general presence of authority).

If you are working over lunch or dinner a meal will be provided. Otherwise, snacks, Gatorade and water will be provided.

We will train you on everything you need to know before we send you to your field.

When you arrive at the PSU intramural fields on Park Ave/University Drive, look for the big white headquarters tent. Ask for Ben or Becca Eltz and we will get you set up.

Please arrive at the headquarters tent at your shift start time. Please allow time for traffic/parking/walking.

Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in helping.  Also, your friends, family, pets, etc. are more than welcome to travel & volunteer as a group.  Our volunteers are almost exclusively made up of friends of friends – so I am sure you will find the group relaxed and enjoyable

If you are interested in helping, we are using a new on-line sign up system with volunteerspot.com and details are below.

Volunteer spot does not require passwords and account set up, but they do require you to enter your email and confirm it before you can see our page.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

1) Click this link to see our Sign-Up on VolunteerSpot: http://vols.pt/mcurzR

2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.

3) Sign up! It’s Easy – you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on VolunteerSpot.

Note: VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually.

We need your help to raise money for local disadvantaged youth.

Seeking trash to treasure Volunteers or Volunteer Groups

April 20th, 2015

15_T2T_0016_SpringSaleSlider-960x332

 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Greetings – it is that time again to start thinking about preparations for Trash to Treasure 2015.

This is the 14th Annual Trash to Treasure Sale which benefits the 34 Centre County United Way Partner Agencies.

Please consider lending a hand!

The 14th Annual Trash to Treasure Sale is scheduled for May 30, 2015 at Beaver Stadium.  Each year over 60 tons of donated goods from Penn State students moving out of the residence halls is collected and sorted to be resold at a discounted price.  It is the largest recycling event in the area and allows community members to get great deals on a variety of items while supporting local health and human service agencies.

The Trash to Treasure set-up and sorting process begins on May 9th and continues until sale day.  We rely heavily on volunteers to help us get ready for over one thousand shoppers who attend the sale.  You can volunteer as an individual or as a group – spend the day or just a couple hours!  There are many flexible shifts available and no previous experience is necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit  http://sites.psu.edu/trash2treasure/volunteer/  to sign up today!

Thank you in advance for your support!
